Visit of Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change Christiana Figueres, 17-19 October 2012
Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Ms Christiana Figueres will visit Singapore from 17 - 19 October 2012 at the invitation of Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs International Organisations Distinguished Visitors Programme (IODVP). The IODVP aims to bring distinguished personalities in International Organisations to Singapore to promote mutual understanding and cooperation, through the exchange of views with Singapore leaders and officials.
During her visit, Ms Figueres will call on Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Mr Teo Chee Hean. Deputy Prime Minister Teo is the Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Climate Change and in this capacity, oversees Singapore’s policies on climate change issues. Ms Figueres will also have meetings with Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Foreign Affairs Ms Grace Fu. While in Singapore, she will also meet representatives from academia, business, and civil society.
Ms Figueres will deliver the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) Distinguished Public Lecture on “Climate Change: Why We Need a Multilateral Solution” on 18 October 2012.
