Singapore’s National Statement by Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit 2015
Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Dr Vivian Balakrishnan delivered Singapore’s national statement at the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Summit 2015 on 27 September 2015 at the UN Headquarters in New York City, USA. The Summit has adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, an ambitious long-term global development framework that includes a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
At the Summit, Minister Balakrishnan announced the launch of Singapore’s Sustainable Development Programme, a special technical assistance package to support the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Under this Programme, Singapore will partner UN agencies, such as the UN Development Programme (UNDP), to provide technical assistance and capacity building to developing countries in the areas of leadership and governance, sustainable cities, and water and sanitation solutions.
In the statement, Minister Balakrishnan also called for closer regional and international cooperation on the issue of transboundary haze pollution in Southeast Asia. The full statement is enclosed.
